DID YOU KNOW- AFRICAN BLACK SOAP

image

Hiya! Its been a while, I want to share with you my esteemed reader something that I have tried and it has worked for me. Are you ready to say bye to pimples, blackheads and spots? well just stay with me. The miracle worker is none other than black soap that we call ose dudu in yoruba. It is an age long tradition with distinct recipe and it is made from natural ingredients (you all know am a sucker for natural stuffs). One thing we all seem to forget is that the chemicals in our soap and creams eventually find their way into our blood (scary right).
African soap is made from dried
plantain skins, along with
palm leaves, kernel oil and cocoa
pod powder, this concoction
nourishes skin with vitamins such as A, E and iron. Plantains skins are largely what make this black soap so effective. It has a delicate texture, a natural, earthy smell, it is soft and melts easily. It is not oily, and neither is it drying can be used for hands, face, body and hair. I use it for my hair and it is just heavenly and by heavenly I mean it makes my hair soft. African black soap is also a little grainy and can crumble when first opened.
BENEFITS.
*Natural black soaps help deep clean the skin without drying out your skin.
*Black soap works on most skin types including rough and dry or sensitive skin.
*Help clear skin bumps and spots by using black soap daily(I have said bye to pimples, acne and blackheads you should too).
*Helps relieve acne , oily skin & other skin problems.
*Black soap is also great for removing makeup.
*Black soap benefits against
premature facial lines and wrinkles.
*Black soap can also be lathered and used as an effective shampoo.(Can’t tell you how much I love using it as my shampoo)
No wonder our Ancestors were radiant. We abandon proven traditional ways just so we could be termed Modern. You don’t need to rob a bank to have a flawless skin. Let me just say Black soap is a lady’s best friend. Be careful when buying your black soap some are adulterated.

TUMERIC AND ITS USES

image

Turmeric is responsible for curry’s color. A cousin of ginger, this rhizome has a long history of use in herbal remedies, particularly in China, India. It is called Ata Ile Pupa in yoruba. We’re commonly reminded to eat colorful plant, foods because their pigments, are associated with antioxidants. Turmeric’s intense color makes it a front-runner in this group
of foods; Curcumin, a compound
found only in turmeric, appears to be the magic ingredient.
1. It is a potent natural anti-
inflammatory that works as well as many anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects.
2. Is a natural painkiller.
3. May aid in fat metabolism and help in weight management.
4. Has long been used in Chinese
medicine as a treatment for depression.
5. Because of its anti inflammatory properties, it is a natural treatment for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
6. Has been shown to stop the
growth of new blood vessels in
tumors.
7. Speeds up wound healing and
assists in remodeling of damaged skin.
8. It is a natural antiseptic and
antibacterial agent, useful in
disinfecting cuts and burns.
9.Many swear by a combination of olive oil and turmeric to deter
dandruff and to improve the overall condition of the scalp. Make a mix of
turmeric and the oil of your choice massage into your scalp and leave on for 15 minutes, then shampoo and style as usual.
10. Turmeric has long used to quell bellies that aren’t behaving properly.
11.The curcumin in
turmeric may delay liver damage that and it can be used to detoxify your liver.
12. Make longevity tea
Dr. Andrew Weil notes that people in Okinawa, the Japanese island nation with the world’s longest average life
span, drink turmeric tea daily. To
make your own, boil four cups of
water, add one teaspoon of ground turmeric, allow to simmer for 10 minutes, strain, and add ginger and/ or honey to taste.
13. You can use Tumeric to whiten your teeth.Sprinkle some turmeric into your regular toothpaste and brush as normal OR Mix 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric with water and use as a mouthwash.
14. A paste of raw papaya and ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder is very effective for removing
unwanted hair permanently. Just
massage your face with this paste for 15 minutes and rinse off. Use it once a week to get fruitful results.
15. It can be used for acne and pimples. Take 4 tablespoons turmeric powder and to this add 1 tablespoon milk and 4
tablespoons raw honey.Massage for at least 10 minutes. Leave this to dry overnight.
I am definitely trying out the longevity drink who doesn’t want to live long. Drop your comments and suggestions.

WHAT YOUR URINE SAYS ABOUT YOUR HEALTH

image

Urine isn’t something most
people talk about. We barely
give it more than a passing
glance as it swirls out of sight
down the toilet bowl. Yet
changes in the urine — its
color, odor, and consistency —
can provide important clues
about the status of your body.
Your urine can reveal what
you’ve been eating, how much
you’ve been drinking, and what
diseases you have. Urine
tests have been around for more than 6,000 years and are easy, noninvasive tools for quickly assessing your health status . In your lifetime, your kidneys filter more than one million gallons of water, enough to fill a small lake.
Amazingly, one kidney can handle the task perfectly well. In fact, if you lose a kidney, your remaining kidney can increase in size by 50 percent within
two months, to take over the job of both.
Urine is 95 percent water and five percent urea, uric acid, minerals, salts, enzymes, and various substances that would cause problems if allowed to
accumulate in your body . Normal urine is clear and has a straw yellow.color, caused by a bile pigment called urobilin. Your urine changes color depending on what foods you
eat, what medications and
supplements you take, how much water you drink, how active you are, and the time of the day. But some diseases can also change the color and other characteristics of your urine, so it’s important to be alert and informed.
The Colour of urine and what it says.
*Yellow/Gold- The most typical urine color, it indicates a healthy urinary tract; yellow will
intensify depending on hydration; some B vitamins cause bright yellow.
* Red/Pink -fresh blood in the urine. It is as a result of urinary tract infection (UTI), kidney stone, or cancer;
consumption of red foods such as beets, blueberries, red food dyes, rhubarb; iron supplements; Pepto- Bismol, Maalox, and a variety of other drugs.
* White/Colorless -Excessive hydration.
* Orange- Typically a sign of dehydration, showing up earlier than thirst; “holding your bladder” for too long; post-exercise; consuming orange
foods (carrots, squash, or food dyes);liver or pituitary problem.
* Amber-More concentrated than orange so severe dehydration related to intense
exercise or heat; excess caffeine or salt; hematuria; decreased urineproduction (oliguria or anuria); metabolic problem; pituitary problem.
*Brown -Very dense urine concentration,.extreme dehydration; consumption of
fava beans; melanuria (too many
particles in urine); UTI; kidney stone;
kidney tumor or blood clot; glycosuria; renal artery
stenosis; proteinuria; pituitary
problem.Consult your physician if problem persists despite adequate hydration, especially if
accompanied by pale stools or yellow skin oreyes
Black (Rare)- Alkaptonuria, a genetic disorder of phenylalanine and tyrosine metabolism marked by accumulation of homogentisic acid in the blood;
poisoning.
Green (Rare)- Unusual UTIs and certain foods (such as asparagus); excessive vitamins.
Consult your doctor especially if you have pain or burning
(dysuria), and/or frequent urination (polyuria), which are
symptoms of UTI.
*Blue (Rare): Artificial colors in foods or drugs; bilirubin; medications such as
methylene blue; unusual UTIs.
*Cloudy- Urinary tract infection, kidney problem, metabolic problem, or lymph fluid in the urine, phosphate crystals,
pituitary problem.
*Foamy -Turbulent urine stream; proteinuria (most common causes are diabetes
and hypertension).
Urine doesn’t typically have a strong smell, but if yours smells pungent (like ammonia), you could have an infection or urinary stones, or you
may simply be dehydrated.
Dehydration causes your urine to be more concentrated and may have a stronger smell than normal, as do high-protein foods like meat and eggs. Menopause, some sexually
transmitted diseases, and certain
metabolic disorders may also increase the ammonia smell.
Urinary frequency is also important.
Peeing six to eight times per day is “average.” You might go more or less often than that, depending on how much water you drink and how active you are. Increased frequency can be
caused by an overactive bladder
(involuntary contractions), caffeine, a urinary tract infection (UTI), interstitial cystitis, benign prostate enlargement, diabetes, or one of a handful of neurological diseases.
It is important to pee when you feel the urge. Delaying urination can cause bladder overdistension — like
overstretching a Rubber band and it doesn’t revert back to its original state
The most important factor in the overall health of your urinary tract is drinking plenty of pure, fresh water every day. Limit your caffeine and alcohol intake, which can irritate the lining of your
bladder and also avoid sugar.

Hope I did justice to the topic.
Please drop your comments and suggestions. I would love to hear from you. Have a wonderful week ahead.

DID YOU KNOW- HEALTHY DARK CHOCOLATE

image

Did you know that dark chocolate is recommended for people who want to loose weight. Well if you didn’t know you are welcome.
Chocolate of any form is gotten from cocoa beans and a by-product () is extracted. Cocoa is really a wonderful plant and did you know that dark chocolate is healthy well not all but datk chocolate. The health benefits of dark chocolatre are listed below-

1) Dark Chocolate is Good for Your Heart
Studies show that eating a small
amount of dark chocolate two or
three times each week can help lower your blood pressure . Dark chocolate improves blood flow and may help prevent the formation of blood clots.
2) Dark Chocolate Helps Control Blood Sugar
Dark chocolate helps keep your blood vessels healthy and your circulation unimpaired to protect against type 2 diabetes. The flavonoids in dark
chocolate also help reduce insulin resistance by helping your cells to function normally and regain theability to use your body’s insulinefficiently. Dark chocolate also has alow glycemic index, meaning it won’t cause huge spikes in blood sugar
levels .
3) Dark Chocolate is Full of
Antioxidants
Dark chocolate is loaded with
antioxidants. Antioxidants help free your body of free radicals, which cause oxidative damage to cells. Free radicals are implicated in the aging
process and may be a cause of
cancer, so eating antioxidant rich
foods like dark chocolate can protect you from many types of cancer and slow the signs of aging.
4) Dark Chocolate Contains
Theobromine
Dark chocolate contains theobromine, which has been shown to harden tooth enamel. That means that dark
chocolate, unlike most other sweets, lowers your risk of getting cavities if you practice proper dental hygiene.
Theobromine is also a mild stimulant, though not as strong as caffeine. It can, however, help to suppress coughs.
5) Dark Chocolate is High in Vitamins and minerals
It contains vitamins and minerals that can support your health. Dark chocolate contains some of the following vitamins and minerals in high concentrations:
Potassium, Copper, Magnesium and Iron.
Bittersweet chocolates that start at 75% and reach all the way up to 99%, or even 100%, have long been enjoyed by people who like the intense flavor of cacao. The higher the percentage, the less sugar there is in the bar, so the more the pure flavor
of the cacao is experienced. But not everyone likes these higher
percentage chocolates —or even
semisweet dark chocolate, which
ranges from 50% to 69% cacao— simply because they’re accustomed to sweeter chocolate.
Even for people who want the higher concentration of cacao, it is not always advisable to jump directly into
the deep end. Regardless of the level of enthusiasm (or the desire for
greater health benefits), even the finest unsweetened chocolate can taste terribly bitter and off-putting at first but you would get used to it. To appreciate the heights of high cacao content chocolate, its advisable to start small.
100% dark chocolate is very bitter and has little or no sugar while milk chocolate has about 50% sugar (huge difference don’t you think) I don’t know of any brands of dark chocolate made in Nigeria but a chocolate is considered healthy if it contains 60% and above cocao content. Anything less than that is sugar and milk all the way. So before you buy your dark chocolates check the cocao content so you can have the best of both worlds. Make sure your dark chocolate is 100% organic and not synthesized from chemicals.

EATING FRUITS THE RIGHT WAY.

During the weekend a friend sent this amazing information and I decided to share with you my esteemed readers.
We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It’s not as easy as you think.
It’s important to know how and when to eat.

DON’T EAT FRUIT AFTER MEALS!

FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

It will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let’s say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil….

Eat fruit on an empty stomach or before meals! People complain, “Every time I eat watermelon I burp; when I eat apples, my stomach bloats up; when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc ” This will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. Fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas, hence you will bloat!

Gray hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under eyes will NOT happen by taking fruit on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. Master the correct way of eating fruits, and you will  have beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

Drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t even drink juice that has been heated up. Don’t eat cooked fruits because you don’t get the nutrients at all. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

Eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

image

KIWI:  A good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

image

APPLE: Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

image

STRAWBERRY:  .. have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

image

ORANGE : Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessening the risk of colon cancer.

image

WATERMELON: Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. A key source of lycopene  the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA:  for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after meals = Cancer!

It will solidify the oily stuff you have just consumed and  slow down digestion… Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. This will turn into fats and lead to cancer. Better to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE’: Not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of pain in the jaw line. You may never have chest pain during a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are common symptoms. Sixty percent who have an attack while asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can awaken you.

Have a healthy week ahead.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER TAKING A BOTTLE OF COKE

There are so many addiction ranging from internet addiction to coke addiction. Before you grab a can/bottle of coke, here are some facts you cannot ignore-

image

Within the first 10 minutes, 10
teaspoons of sugar hit your system.
This is 100 percent of your
recommended daily intake, and the
only reason you don’t vomit as a
result of the overwhelming
sweetness is because phosphoric
acid cuts the flavor.
Within 20 minutes, your blood
sugar spikes, and your liver responds
to the resulting insulin burst by
turning massive amounts of sugar
into fat.
Within 40 minutes, caffeine
absorption is complete; your pupils
dilate, your blood pressure rises, and
your liver dumps more sugar into
your bloodstream.
Around 45 minutes, your body
increases dopamine production,
which stimulates the pleasure centers
of your brain – a physically identical
response to that of heroin, by the way.
After 60 minutes, you’ll start to have
a sugar crash.
Soda drinkers have higher cancer risk.
Soda/Soft drinks has been shown to cause DNA
damage – courtesy of sodium
benzoate, a common preservative
found in many soft drinks, which has
the ability to switch off vital parts of
your DNA. This could eventually lead
to diseases such as cirrhosis of the
liver and Parkinson’s disease.
Here’s another sobering fact if you’re
struggling with weight issues: Just one
extra can of soda per day can add as
much as 15 pounds to your weight
over the course of a single year!
I overheard someone say that a bottle of coke reduces your immunity by 30% since your body is trying to deal with the sugar you dumped into it. Am not saying you shouldn’t take soft drinks but it should be done in moderation and it shouldn’t be an everyday affair.
If you are still drinking soda, stopping
the habit is an easy way to improve
your health. Pure water is a much
better choice, or if you must drink a
carbonated beverage, try sparkling
mineral water with a squirt of lime or lemon juice.

DETOXIFICATION AT HOME

image

Detoxification is about resting, cleaning and nourishing the body from the inside out. Detoxification means cleaning the blood. This is done by removing impurities from the blood. Detoxification has been practiced for centuries by different cultures around the world including Ayurvedic (Indian) and Chinese medicine systems.
Why you need to detoxify.
Today with more toxins in the environment than ever, it is critical to detoxify. From the food we eat to the air we breath in. Living without toxic build up is virtually impossible, which is why our body has built in mechanisms to deal with toxic overload and some of these mechanisms include crying, sweating (you wonder why people use anti-perspirant), urination and defeacation.
Exposure to toxins is part of life, however, with the abundance of chemicals and pesticides in our food and environment. And the increasing level of stress in our society, our body is overwhelmed with toxic build up and so needs additional help expelling toxins. Often times toxins bind to our sex hormone or thyroid hormones and slow down metabolism or weight gain. Our liver, small intestine, kidneys and colon are the major organs involved in the body’s detoxification system.
Symptoms you need to detoxify include but are not limited to
– Unexplained fatigue
– Irritated skin
– Allergies
– Mental confusion
– Bloating
– Menstrual problems

How to detoxify.
1) Drink lots and lots of water. I can’t over emphasise this point and it doesn’t cost you anything. Water can to flush out toxins from your body naturally. Proper water intake can contribute to clearer skin, properly functioning organs and a more effective circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems.
2) Do lots of exercise and sweat it out- we all know that exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. You don’t just have to turn to exercise when you want to lose weight, it should be done regularly. When it comes to naturally and effectively cleansing the body exercise is a great option. When you are exercising you not only help the body shed fat and excess weight, but you are also getting rid of toxins. As you sweat, these toxins can come out and therefore cleansing takes place.

image

3) Replace coffees and beverages with green tea. Green tea is a superfood and it is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. A little coffee is okay maybe once a week. Green tea offers important antioxidants that our body needs in the most natural form.
4) Eat more fiber in its natural form and lots of fruits. Not only is it part of a healthy diet that will contribute to weight loss, but it’s also essential way of cleasing the body in the most natural form.
Our body especially the digestive tract, tend to onto some substance that enter. This may be toxins, preservativea from foods that we eat, or waste that is not disposed properly by the body. When you introduce fiber into our diet, it helps to keep the digestive tract working properly. Fresh fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, and whole grains are all excellent sources of fiber.
5) Get more sleep at night
Without proper sleep you can gain weight, you may have a compromised immune system and of course you lack natural energy. Lack of sleep can catch up on you after a while. When you try to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night you give your body a chance to rest and recuperate. Sleep is not a luxury but an important way that your body rebuild and prepare for the activities that you have ahead the next day.
6) Avoid obvious environmental toxins which range from second hand smoke, smog to diminished air quality. If something doesn’t smell or feel right chances are that its not doing no good to your system.
7) Cut out simple carbohydrate, white sugar and flour and any fried foods.
The starchy sides at dinner such as white rice or pasta are as damaging to your waistline and your health as doughnuts, cakes and cookies. Many people don’t understand just how harmful products made with white sugar and flour can be but they result in toxins in the body that you don’t want. I also love rice but there healthy ways of taking rice why not go for brown rice(contains all the good nutrients) its very healthy rather than parboiled and peeled white rice.
8) Stop microwaving your food- microwaving changes the protein structure of your food making it potentially harmful to your body.

image

9) Learn to incorporate superfoods into each meal.
Superfoods are a delicious and nutritious group of foods including foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids like Olive oil (Cold pressed), Salmon, Avocado, Almonds. Also take foods that are bright in colour as it means that they contain plenty antioxidants such as Spinach, Tomatoes, Sweet potatoes, Oranges, Carrots, Apples etc
10) Try fasting for a day or two
Replace foods with natural juices (100%- not 5alive o)made from fresh fruits and vegetable can really help. When you give your body a chance to rest in this capacity, it has time to recuperate and rejuvenate. Juicing your food floods your body with live enzymes and a lot of antioxidants that help not only to neutralize free radicals but also strengthen and support the immune system. Antioxidants even have anti-aging properties.
11) Make sure you use 100% cold pressed organic oils for cooking. Increase your vitamin C intake.
Learning how to detoxify the body doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does mean that you will have to make healthy choices that really work for you. To start detoxifying it is important that you detoxify your liver, kidneys and colon first as they are the major organ that detoxify and if they are blocked with toxins imagine doing yourself more harm than good. So make sure to detoxify them first, this would be discussed in a later post. If it your first time detoxifying you would encounter some unpleasant side effects such as headaches, nausea, fatigue, constipation, diarrhea. The side effects are completely normal just imagine opening flood gates. Hope you get the gist.
Question and comments are always welcomed. Follow us on twittering @naturesecreto. Have a beautiful week ahead.
